Coffee shops taking us for mugs
QUEENSLANDERS are paying more than ever for their daily caffeine hit, forking out an average of $6.17 for a coffee, according to new research.
The study by coffee giant Lavazza found the national average spend was $5.50 for a cup of joe, but Queenslanders are happily handing over an extra 67c per drink as they customise their beverages with extra shots and non-dairy milks, the Courier Mail reports.
A third of coffee drinkers in Queensland are ordering their coffees without full cream cow's milk, with alternate milks attracting surcharges of 50c-$1.
Sunshine State residents aged 25-29 and 60-plus and earning between $40,000-$80,000 or more than $120,000 a year were the highest consumers of coffee both in and out of the home.
