Coast snake-catcher has scarily close encounter

A COAST snake-catcher had a face-to-face encounter with a tree snake when he had to crawl underneath a car to find it.

Max Jackson of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 was called out to a job on Friday at the Sunshine Coast University.

A woman said she saw a "brown-coloured" snake climb up underneath her car.

Mr Jackson said at first he was worried it could be a brown snake, but was able to quickly identify it as a tree snake.

He crawled underneath the car where the snake had coiled up above the axle.

"It can be a bit risky putting your head underneath a car and not knowing what type of snake it is.

"I was fortunate that I saw a section of the snake and was able to ID it."

Mr Jackson said the snake was gripping tightly to poles underneath the car so he had to tease it out.

Without warning the snake dropped on his face and neck. Mr Jackson was quick to slide out from beneath the car.

"It was definitely the first time I have ever had a snake land on my face," he laughed.

"When it landed on my face all I was trying to do was get out from under the car so I could see."

Mr Jackson was able to safely move the snake and relocate it.

"We get quite a few calls with reports of snakes climbing up underneath cars," Mr Jackson said.

"In fact, I just got back from another one at Buderim.

"It was a carpet python this time."
