Coast fishing rights protest

IF you like eating fish or other seafood, if you enjoy catching fish or other seafood or if you depend for your living on all the marine, food and accommodation businesses that depend on fishing tourism in the Gympie region, you are automatically invited.

The occasion is tonight’s fishing lobby protest meeting at the Gympie Showgrounds Pavilion, where everyone from commercial and recreational fishers to business people and Senators, will be welcome to make their feelings known.

The rally, which starts at 6.30pm, will be addressed by fishing advocates and lobby groups, including Marine Queensland, Fishing Party rep Keith Douglas, Cairns marine business operator Wayne Bayne and four senior Opposition Senators, Brett Mason, Ian Macdonald Ron Boswell and Nigel Scullion.

The rally is a response to widespread alarm at a current Federal Government review of fishing rights over a vast area off the Cooloola Coast, including some of the state’s most significant fishing grounds.
