Fashion retailer sews up huge contract with sports superstar
A GOLD Coast family business has scored the contract to suit up golfing legend Tiger Woods at the glittering President's Cup gala dinner in Melbourne next month.
Bruno's Suits will also provide suits, shoes, ties and shirts for 59 other members of the US golf team, international players and juniors.
The Varsity Lakes business is owned by Peter Elias and Bruno Durante, who have been negotiating for the exclusive deal with the PGA in the US since last year.
"We're a very humble business, so we would rather not mention the value of this contract," Mr Elias said.
"It's not about the money anyway. It's worth a fantastic amount in exposure and prestige to suit up players at one of the biggest sporting events in the world."
He said he was really excited about suiting up his sporting hero Woods.
"He's one of the most famous sporting personalities on the planet and I'm really looking forward to meeting him," he said.
"The gala dinner is on Tuesday, December 10, at the Crown Casino and Tiger Woods arrives with most of the US team on a chartered plane the Sunday before.
"We were supplied with his measurements by the PGA but we'll do any last-minute alterations with him then."
Mr Elias said the US team would be wearing black tuxedos, black leather shoes, white, silk shirts and black ties.
Their suits were designed exclusively for Bruno's Suits and made in Australia.
Mr Elias, a keen golfer who played in the World Cup Pro Am last year in Melbourne, said the suiting deal came out of that event.
"I started talking to the right people there about this contract and we've been talking ever since," he said.
Bruno's Suits is no newcomer to suiting up sportsmen and supplies the Gold Coast Titans, Gold Coast Suns and other local sports clubs.
