Closure rumours aren't true: Dick Smith

RUMOURS that Dick Smiths may not reopen after the flood have been debunked by the store.

A spokeswoman for the Gympie store said Dick Smith Electronics was committed to the region and would be re-opening at a date to be announced.

The Mary St retailer had only just opened on Monday with a total refurbishment after floodwaters went through the store in January.

A brand new shop fit-out had just one day of use as heavy rain pelted down, causing the Mary River to flood and reach a peak of 18.44m.

A new floor had no time to cure before it was submerged underneath 42cm of water. It will need to be replaced, the spokeswoman said.
