Clays fly at state champs

SHOOTING: Gympie's Sporting Clays Club will host a compac shoot for president's day tomorrow.

This event follows on from a state selection shoot that was held late last month.

Some of the world's most accurate clay target shooters were on hand, with the event hosting competitors from not only Queensland but also southern states and as far away as New Zealand.

Gympie hosts the shoot once every four years with competition tight over a 45 athlete field.

Former world champion Billy Cain took out the shoot last month with an impressive score of 142/150.

Described as "golfing with a shot gun,” clays provide a mix of precision, timing and handling.

Monthly shoots at the club are held on the third Sunday of each month.
