CareFlight in high demand
THE Sunshine Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter flew back-to-back rescue missions on Saturday, including a dramatic winch rescue near Gympie.
At 10.30am Saturday, the Maroochydore-based rescue helicopter was dispatched to the aid of a rock climber, following an accident in the Brooyar State Forest, west of Gympie.
It is believed the man in his late 30s was climbing a sheer rock face along with a number of other people, when he lost his grip and fell up to 8m. He suffered multiple lower limb fractures as a result of the fall.
Given the heavily vegetated surrounds of the accident site, the CareFlight intensive care paramedic and flight doctor were winched down to treat the patient.
The CareFlight medical crew worked with Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics to treat the patient at the scene, before he was winched into the helicopter.
The man was flown to Nambour General Hospital in a stable condition.
The same crew was then tasked to Parklands MX Park near Kenilworth at 1.30pm.
It is believed a 20-year-old man had suffered multiple injuries as a result of a motocross accident.
The man was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a stable condition.
