Gympie has a beer of its own again
GYMPIE amateur brewers have given their seal of approval to a new brew on offer at Gunabul Homestead.
Gunabul Golden Ale is the creation of Zesty Edibles' George Isaac and is one of a kind.
"It's exclusive," he said. "There's no other beer like it."
The beer is made just for Zesty Edibles by Brisbane-based brewery, Bacchus Brewery and is a proud nod to Gympie's beer-making heritage.
Gympie Prize Pale Ale was brewed at a Gympie brewery on Brewery Rd from 1885.
Mr Isaac said it was likely this original Gympie beer was served at Gunabul Homestead over 100 years ago.
"The original brewery site can be observed from the cool relaxing veranda of Gunabul Homestead," he said.
"We have the coolest brewing history and Gunabul is the greatest venue for the enjoyment of craft beer in Australia."
Gunabul Golden Ale is a mid-strength beer characterised by a rich golden colour and based on an English ale recipe.
"It's an old-school style of beer," Mr Isaac said.
The beer features undertones of honey and macadamias and, interestingly, passionfruit.
"I wanted to pick ingredients that were from the region," Mr Isaac said
The amateur brewer was looking at a possible full strength version of the beer in the future but wanted to see how his current creation went with punters.
To produce a new batch, Mr Isaac only needed to provide three weeks notice.
"It's a quick turnaround."
