Devils' cheer squad wins comp

PLENTY of cheer and tricks that had the crowd roaring for more helped guide the Gympie Devils Under 8 cheer squad to victory in the All Stars Competition last Sunday.

The competition was held in Logan City and it was the first time the Devils cheer squad had competed.

Despite this, the squad finished first in the Mini Cheer Section, receiving a giant team trophy and individual medallions marking the achievement.

The squad included: Caitlin Dwyer, Cella Lewis, Sophia Lewis, Chloe Cooper, Maddison Cooper, Grace Wickson and Lauren Galagher.

Squad coaches Julie and Ashleigh Rimmington were overwhelmed by the success.

“The girls did a fantastic job for their first ever competition,” the pair said.

“The hard work has paid off as the team came in first.

On the path to victory, the Gympie squad executed a flawless routine, including dance, hip hop, stunts and tumbling.

The crowd was particularly appreciative of the efforts of three-year-old Sophia Lewis as she carried out her tricks with great expertise.

Lewis was quick to replenish her energy after the routine, falling asleep and missing a team photo shortly after the squad was announced winners.

The squad is looking at competing again in the near future and hopes to grow its numbers.

Training takes place at Rimmington’s Fitness Studio each Wednesday afternoon from 3.30pm. Contact Ashleigh Rimmington on 5483 6444 for further information.
