Man charged after allegedly crashing car into pond

A MAN has been charged with drink-driving after allegedly crashing his car into a pond at The Willows on Cootharaba Rd.

At about 5pm on Thursday the man allegedly lost control of his Ford Falcon sedan and it ran off the road and into the pond.

Senior Sergeant Gregg Davey said the driver allegedly fled the scene, but was caught a short time later and taken to Gympie police station.

Snr Sgt Davey said the 38-year-old Gympie man allegedly recorded a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.122%.

The man will appear in Gympie Magistrates Court at a later date.

Meanwhile, police continued to look for the driver of a Holden Commodore sedan that ran into a shopfront at Mt Pleasant Rd on Thursday night.

Snr Sgt Davey said when police arrived at the crash just after 10pm, the car was gone. The Commodore was found a short distance from the scene, but the driver has not been located.

Snr Sgt Davey said anyone with information about the crash can contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
