Celebrity show might go on

BRITAIN’S B-grade celebrities may finally get their wish when popular UK reality show I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here begins filming its final series near Murwillumbah in November.

But the show’s producers seem to have different plans.

The long-running reality series may be around longer than expected, with UK tabloids reporting that the show will go on in the Tweed for at least another four years.

The show films in the “Australian jungle” of Dungay.

The popular UK show forces contestants to ditch their lifestyles of the rich and the famous for time in the bush, with competitions such as the bush tucker trials, which can include munching on crocodile eyeballs.

The rumour mill surrounding this year’s show has named Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitchell, Irish singing duo John and Edward Grimes, UK X Factor singer Yousseph “Chico” Slimani and former Scottish TV presenter John Leslie as potential contestants.

The show has previously lured glamour model Nicola McLean, Star Trek actor George Takei, Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova, supermodel Janice Dickinson, Australian actor Jason Donovan, pop singer Peter Andre and model Katie Price aka Jordan to the Tweed.

Last year British broadcasters ITV were forced to apologise after celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo and soap star Stuart Manning were investigated by the RSPCA for killing a rat during filming.

A Tweed Shire Council spokeswoman yesterday said they had received no indication from the show’s producers of continuing the program to 2014.

“At this stage Council is not aware of any extra seasons of I’m A Celebrity,” the spokeswoman said.

“I can confirm we do not currently have any application or request to extend beyond their previous arrangements.

A spokesman from Sydney-based Granada Media Australia, which produce the show, said they were unavailable to provide a comment yesterday.
