Catering for hospitality with hands-on experience
JUDITH Grantham has been working at the Gympie Regional Careers Expo since it began in 2009.
Judith’s business, Picnicin Catering, has been looking after many Gympie Regional Council events for the past decade.
“We’ve been looking after Matt Allard and the council for a while now.
“A lot of my work comes through council. In fact it’ll be 10 years in business in April. Besides, it’s a way I can give back,” Judith said.
Judith will be taking care of all the catering at the event and will be also be helping Gympie High School students on their path to working in the hospitality industry by providing work experience to a dozen of them.
Judith will be rallying her band from 9am, providing free tea and coffee for all the stall holders and she will be cooking up some treats for the canteen too.
Judith is a big fan of the event.
“I think it’s a great idea to get the kids in one place to see what’s available. They come in at different times and there a 100 stalls or so to see, from the army and defence forces through to TAFE and further education,” she said.
Her work experience helpers will get something from the event too, and even help fellow hospitality students of the future.
“I can give them feedback on their performances and help the school, teaching them what they need to know to get into this industry,” she said.
The Gympie Regional Careers Expo is on tomorrow, May 26 from 10am-2pm at the Pavilion at the Gympie Show Grounds.
