Cat influx worries Gympie RSPCA

GYMPIE RSPCA animal attendant Alex Byrne has been helping animals in need for more than seven years and has greater pleasure seeing animals leave than arrive at the facility.

While Gympie RSPCA has enjoyed success finding new homes for abandoned animals, an unexpected influx of cats as Ms Byrne worried.

"Last week was really surprising with the number of cats we received," she said. "I'm not really sure what the cause is."

The cats needing a new start range from kittens through to mature cats and the RSPCA animal attendant encourages people in the market for a new pet to consider adoption.

"There's so many different personalities and such a great variety," Ms Byrne said.

Cute kittens are irresistible but the mature cat could be just the ticket for those wanting a calmer pet.

"Mature cats are over that silly kitten stage where they are running about, so they could be perfect for some homes," Ms Byrne said.
