Police confirm $50,000 found in suitcase has a happy ending

THE owner of $50,000 found in a suitcase at a Sunshine Coast charity shop has been identified, police confirmed this afternoon.

The Daily had been told yesterday a woman had been identified as the owner of the case, however national media reports today indicated police were still looking for the owner.

These national media reports are incorrect.

The suitcase was on sale in the store for just $5 last month when the hidden money was discovered by accident.

A sales assistant found the money in a concealed compartment after a man carried the suitcase to the counter for purchase.

The clerk called police to report the find, and a two-week investigation followed in an effort to locate the case's rightful owner.

Police said an elderly female owner had been identified after she had provided a detailed description of the case and the exact amount inside.
