Cappetti wins A Grade medal

GYMPIE Pines veteran Don Cappetti carded a sensational nett 63 to win the A Grade monthly medal easily a fortnight ago.

Playing with new clubs, Cappetti shot well under his 13 handicap to record a gross 76 and claim the coveted stroke event sponsored by Neals’ Family Meats.

“My new Tommy Armour sticks are fantastic and I think they really made a difference to my game today,” a delighted Cappetti said.

The Gympie veteran also put his win down to some excellent form with the putter and his ability to keep the ball on the fairway and out of the especially long rough, which has flourished in the recent wet weather.

“I had just 28 putts today and when you combine that with good play on the fairways it usually results in a pretty good score,” he said.

The scoring wasn’t quite so good in B Division, which was won by John Kenny who carded a nett 71 with Peter Newth runner up on 72.

Ray Rigbye was the A Grade runner up on 66.

Ball rundown to 71: Gavin Jensen, Bob Abbott, Doug Sutton, Joe Simaile, George Tompkins, Barry Allen, Lindsay Taylor.

Hole 16 accuracy shot: Ivan Doyle 3 balls, Errol Radley 2 balls, Norm Hatton, Doug Sutton, Lindsay Taylor, Alwyn Geary, Graeme Major, Nev Gilchrist, Doug Cunningham 1 ball each.

Today the vets play a 4BBB Stableford event.
