Costumed crusaders take to streets to battle clowns

CHILDREN of Mackay, never fear, our very own costumed crusaders are here to defend against the bizarre copycat clown craze.

Batman and Spiderman have taken to patrolling the streets of our fair city to push back the strange clowns scaring Mackay's noble citizens.

That information comes directly from insider Trevor Rowler, who mans the superheroes' secret, high-tech Andergrove hideout.

Mr Rowler, co-owner of Little Party Heroes Mackay, said he and his wife and business partner Alisha convinced Spidey and the Dark Knight to leap into action after their five-year-old son and some schoolmates began having trouble sleeping due to the clown trend.

"Batman and Spiderman getting out to patrol for clowns was really about putting kid's minds at ease," he said.

"We heard a lot of kids were getting upset with all the talk of scary clowns about town and the talk was going through school, so Batman and Spiderman decided to help out and make sure the kids are sleeping safe.

"A lot of parents have commented they like the idea and they've told their kids about it and it made them feel a lot better. Even the parents are saying they feel a lot better now that Batman and Spiderman are on the case.

"The kids were asking a lot of questions (about the clowns) like 'who were they, what were they doing?'. There was obviously concern out there and it really twigged with us when we heard kids were coming back from school asking the questions. The parents weren't talking to the kids about it, but it was spreading around schools."

Batman's got this covered

Mr Rowler noted Batman and Spiderman were not acting as street vigilantes, but wanted to work in concerto with brave police officers to stop clowns in their tracks.

"Kids should know there's nothing to be scared of," he said.

"The authorities will do the right thing. Batman and Spiderman are certainly not getting in the way of police operations or anything like that either. Police don't need to come after these superheroes."

Mr Rowler hoped the children of Mackay were feeling safer with Batman's unbeatable detective know-how and Spiderman's web-slinging skills at the ready.

"If kids aren't sleeping properly or are scared or worried about something this silly, why not get Batman and Spiderman on the job?" he said.

"My boy's resting safely now. He loves the fact he's got his very own bodyguard. Hopefully all the kids feel a little bit safer now."

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said no clown sightings had been made in the Mackay region in recent days.

It follows a supposed sighting in Mackay last Sunday, in which police responded to a report from a security guard that a man dressed in a clown outfit was scaring walkers around the Bluewater Trail near Caneland Central.

No one in Australia has been injured by the clowns, who are believed to be linked to a similar trend in the United States.
