Calvin Harris’ amazing marriage equality promise

Calvin Harris, do the right thing ploise.

HUNDREDS of people on social media are today calling on superstar DJ Calvin Harris to make good on a brilliant promise he made five years ago regarding Australian marriage equality.

Adelaide-based DJ Filip Odzak met the Scottish-born artist and producer after Sydney's Stereosonic festival some five years ago - and managed to extract a pretty awesome promise from Harris during their hangout.

Hanging backstage at a post-festival appearance at Sydney's Marquee Bar, Harris apparently said that if and when marriage equality became legal in Australia, he'd offer up a little treat to mark the occasion.

Not just any treat. He'd cook up a Calvin Harris remix of the Spice Girls' iconic 1996 hit, 2 Become 1.

A lushly romantic Spice Girls classic turned into a Calvin Harris dancefloor banger? Surely the perfect song to soundtrack yesterday's history-making decision - and so Odzak, who managed to wrangle Harris' number during their meeting, thought he'd send the DJ a friendly text to remind him of the deal.

"We made a deal - sealed with a handshake - that you would remix Spice Girls 2 Become 1 when marriage equality was finally legalised in Australia," Odzak wrote.

"I'm very excited to hear what you do with the iconic track to celebrate this momentous occasion. A deal is a deal!"

Harris is yet to publicly respond - but many on social media have chimed in:

Odzak expanded on the story in an interview with Adelaide's Power Pack radio show this morning.

"I don't know how it came up, but we were talking about what your bridal dance would be. I said - being a lifelong devoted Spice Girls fan - that mine would be 2 Become 1. My world is still Spiceworld, and I really haven't moved beyond 1997," Odzak said, confirming that he is indeed an excellent person who makes smart life choices.

"Then we got on to the topic of why it wouldn't happen, because there is no gay marriage yet. He was in shock: 'No! I thought it was totally legal in Australia.' Somehow we just made the pact - 'When they finally legalise it you can do a remix for me.' He probably thought it was a complete laugh and a joke, and doing it to impress a pretty girl next to me, but I have been holding on to it ever since. He did put his number in my phone, so I was dead serious about it," he said.

Look this was a very gay story already so we thought we’d just pop a nice piccie of Calvin Harris in his underpants in the middle to tip it over the edge

And this isn't some stunt attempt at going viral: Odzak wants his remix.

"This is it. I've been waiting for this moment. I want my remix. I don't have anything else going on in my life other than this," he said.

He finished with a personal plea to Harris himself:

"Calvin Harris just do it! You're very rich, you can have anything you want. I've got nothing, just do this for me."

Allow us to reiterate Odzak's sentiments - attention Calvin Harris:
