ONE lucky group of divers got the chance to give a huge great white shark a comprehensive dental examination on a recent trip to South Africa.

"It was quite the up close and personal experience," American Hillary Rae says of her encounter with the apparently 11.5ft shark, in the video's description on YouTube.

Rae had decided to go for a spot of cage-diving at Mossel Bay while on a few days off from volunteering at the nearby Cango Wildlife Ranch and definitely got more shark than she was expecting.

"The shark was even closer than he appears. I apologise for the shakiness," Rae adds.

I think we'll let her off, all things considered. We're just glad she had that flimsy bit of metal and a bit of foam to protect her:
