Businesses counting the cost of floods as Mary River peaks
RAIN was continuing to fall in the flood ravaged Gympie this morning as businesses went about the heart-breaking task of cleaning out the murky water from their premises.
Gympie Times editor Craig Warhurst said about 40 businesses had been flooded in the town but the council was still assessing the full extent of the damage.
Council clean-up crews as well as helpers for businesses were expected to move in now that river levels were slowly falling.
The Bureau of Meteorology said this morning that rainfall rates had eased in the Mary River catchment.
"Major flood levels are currently steady at 18.39 metres at Gympie and a minor flood peak is expected at Maryborough during Thursday,'' the bureau's latest advice, issued just before 5am said.
