Bullets shot down by 36ers for first loss

BASKETBALL: Brisbane Bullets coach Andrej Lemanis has rued his side's defensive frailties after his team lost for the first time this season in the NBL.

The Bullets went down 96-93 in overtime at the Brisbane Convention Centre to an Adelaide 36ers team inspired by American import Jerome Randle.

Randle shot a game-high 34 points for Joey Wright's team as he dominated the final quarter and the extra period.

Lemanis said his team lost some composure when it came to teh clutch moments.

"What cost us was a lack of urgency on the defensive end when we got that lead and they came charging at us and we gave up too many easy scores,” Lemanis said.

"This is a symptom of a team that is brand new and hasn't played together much yet. We struggled to find consistency in what plays we were going to run when we needed a basket or to settle the game down.

"We played too flustered and frantic rather than let the ball do some work.”

There was some positive for the Bullets, with Boomers and former Chicago Bulls forward, Cameron Bairstow, playing his first game after returning from a dislocated shoulder he picked up at the Rio Olympics.

Bairstow scored 15 points and claimed seven rebounds in a solid display.

Torrey Craig and Jermaine Beal led the way for the Bullets with 22 and 21 points respectively.
