TV presenter opens display village

CHANNEL Nine presenter Bruce Paige summed it up nicely when he said Gympie was "beautifully situated for anybody who liked to live near the bush and the coast".

He was visiting the region yesterday to help officially open the first Master Builders Display Village for Gympie.

Mr Paige was invited to MC the official proceedings by his buddy Martin Kerwin, of Master Builders.

In opening, he said he was delighted to be back in Gympie where his late mother had been raised as a child.

The display village is at The Aspect estate, on Woodland Rd, Southside. A new development with a master plan of 600 lots, "maybe more", said developer Michael Brown.

This is the second residential estate he has developed. And after the success of the Greendale estate, Mr Brown was confident The Aspect would deliver.

"There's a fair future here with this village and I'm looking forward to the journey in the next couple of years.

"This village is an amazing example of what the builders can do at an affordable price."

Gympie Regional Council's planning and development chairman Ian Petersen had battled to get the development approval through and praised the development for being "top quality".

"This sets the benchmark," he said. "A development of this standard ... will help accommodate Gympie's growth. The display village is a big win for the district. These quality homes are a real credit to Master Builders."

Mr Brown knew he was onto a good thing when he purchased the farmland four years ago.

"I have a rural background so I saw an opportunity when this land came up for sale because it's so close to town," he said.

Mr Paige said Gympie offered the best of all worlds, from city life to the country and the beach.

"Who knows, you might kick a rock in the backyard and find gold," he said with a grin.
