Broncos chip in for charity

BRONCOS stars Willie Carne, Kerrod Walters and Shane Walker are ready to swing a club at the Gympie Pines Golf Course this weekend in the name of charity.

The four Broncos players will be in Gympie Saturday for the NAB Gympie/Broncos Youth Development Charity Golf Day.

Raising funds for the Smarter Choices Program and Little Haven Palliative Care, the golf day takes the form of a two player ambrose with six players per team.

The event was a major success last year, raising $16,000, and organisers are again hopeful of a similar outcome.

Cost to register is $35 per person and tee off is at 12.30pm.

Play is expected to conclude by 5pm when presentations take place.

Meanwhile, a charity auction will also be held, placing sporting memorabilia under the hammer for avid collectors.

Organiser and head of the Smarter Choices Program, Darren Burns, said there were plenty of items worth bidding for this year.

“We have sourced some great rugby league items, such as a framed and signed State of Origin jersey, a signed premiership Broncos jersey from 2006 and some Billy Slatter items,” he said.

“The auction was a big success last year and we hope for a repeat.”

Both Little Haven Palliative Care and the Smarter Choices Program are actively making a difference within the Gympie community.

Little Haven Palliative care is an invaluable service to those who are terminally ill while the Smarter Choices Program targets school children, encouraging them to make healthy lifestyle choices.
