Cross out with broken collarbone

A BROKEN collarbone means Gympie football product Adam Cross will miss the remainder of the McDonald’s Premier League.

Cross received his injury playing for newly inducted side in the Sunshine Coast Competition, Cooroora, at the weekend against local rivals Noosa.

Medical assessment shortly after the incident revealed Cross had broken his collarbone in two places in the dying minutes of the encounter.

As the leading goal scorer for the competition, the injury is a bitter blow for Cross with his side beginning to build momentum ahead of the finals, particularly after putting Noosa to the sword 2-0 at the weekend.

Two rounds remain and Cooroora has soared to third position on the competition ladder.

Striking partner and Cooroora captain Scott Rocker said losing Cross to injury was devastating.

“He’s a pretty big loss for us, he’s been outstanding this year,” Rocker said.

“But we have a couple of guys that have had to miss out every week so one of them will step in and fill his shoes well.”

Rocker opened the scoring for Cooroora after executing a free kick while Cross claimed the remaining goal with 15 minutes left on the game clock.
