Former Mount Morgan man dies in hospital after assault

A POIGNANT message on Facebook summed up the heartbreaking end of a couple's life together.

"There are moments which mark your life. Moments when you realise nothing will ever be the same and time is divided into two parts - before this, and after this."

The quote was posted by Britt Potter, whose partner Jason Toby died in a Brisbane hospital on Christmas Eve.

Mr Toby spent his childhood in Mount Morgan before moving to Brisbane. Much of his immediate family still lives in central Queensland.

Mr Toby, 38, was assaulted in Brisbane's CBD.

According to The Courier-Mail, police said Mr Toby and Ms Potter were arguing on a footpath in the early hours of Sunday morning.

An unknown man intervened and started trading blows with Mr Toby.

Mr Toby was knocked unconscious and was taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital.

He died on Christmas Eve.

Police investigations into the assault continue.

Ms Potter's Facebook page featured messages of sympathy, love and support.

"Jason was a gentle giant and a good man who will be missed by many," one post read.

The Morning Bulletin contacted family members for comment.
