Brisbane's Story Bridge up for rent

BRISBANE'S iconic Story Bridge could soon be closed up to four times annually for special events.

The bridge, which Premier Cambell Newman described as arguably the state's most iconic structure, has only been closed for Riverfire up until now.

Mr Newman is encouraging planners and organisers to submit applications to use the bridge for events.

His announcement about the bridge yesterday(mon) coincides with the bridge's closure this Saturday night for one of the city's most renowned fireworks' displays, Riverfire.

"In the coming years, Queensland will be on the world stage with major international events including the G20 Summit, AFC Asian Cup, ICC Cricket World Cup and 21st Commonwealth Games," Mr Newman.

"We're keen to keep Brisbane in the international spotlight in the years to come through the use of this superstructure."

Applications for events being held from January to June 2015 are now open and close by October 24.
