Oh Boyd, he’s going to miss Mother’s Day

FOR Brisbane Broncos captain Darius Boyd, the best defence is a good offence.

The Suncorp Stadium double-header on Saturday night, in which the Broncos play the Manly Sea Eagles, means Boyd will miss spending Mother's Day with wife Kayla and daughter Willow.

So while fulfilling duties for Fox League, the double-header broadcasters, in the Queen Street Mall this week, Boyd took the opportunity to surprise his wife with a pre-emptive bouquet of flowers.

"We've actually got a recovery session first thing on Sunday morning so the club (the Broncos) probably won't be that popular with the girls," Boyd said.

"But we'll be out there trying to get a win for them on Saturday night, and I'm sure all the boys have something special lined up for their mums and wives on Sunday to make the day extra special for them."

Gorden Tallis, also present for Fox League, added: "Ask any player in the NRL who the biggest influence is or was on their career, and they'll say their mum."

The double header is live and exclusive on Fox League on Saturday from 5.30pm.
