Mackay has less than 24 hours water supply
THE council is urging people to only use tap water for drinking and sanitation after Cyclone Debbie cut power to the Nebo Road Bores.
This has stopped Mackay Regional Council from pumping more water, leaving it with 12-24 hours worth of supply.
"At present we only have about half to one day of supply in our reservoirs," a council spokesperson said. "We also can't access water from the river due to poor quality."
The council has asked people to use water for drinking and sanitation, not for cleaning and washing clothes.
The council said it is working with Ergon to fix the problem.
It is one of many problems for Ergon, as it has more than 63,000 customers from Airlie Beach to Moranbah without power.
The energy company is bringing 900 workers to fix the issues and a further 150 from New South Wales.
