ROLLING: Suspected Mustang thief now driving stolen ute


  • A Ford GT Mustang was stolen from a dealership in Proserpine just before 5pm Thursday
  • A 31-year-old Mackay woman linked to the theft was due to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court Friday morning
  • Police had been following her alleged accomplice, a man, driving the vehicle through Mackay streets Friday morning, with multiple sightings
  • The Ford Mustang was found crashed in Paget, with a crime scene established, with the man fleeing the scene.

UPDATE:  A MAN has been charged by police after the pursuit of the stolen Ford GT Mustang came to an end on Friday.

A Police Media spokeswoman confirmed the man had been charged with two minor offences relating to the theft.

She said the man was not the main offender who police were still searching for, as he was currently still outstanding. 

LATEST: THIS is the man police suspect stole a new V8 Ford Mustang GT from a car yard on Thursday, which was later crashed through a Mackay property. He is now thought to be driving a stolen white ute.

Police say the man may be able to answer questions about a number of break and enters, dangerous driving and arson incidents that have spanned from Bowen to Sarina south of Mackay.

"The man is believed to have stolen a brand new grey coloured 2017 model Ford GT Mustang from a business in Main St, Proserpine yesterday," police said in a statement on Friday afternoon.

"The same Mustang crashed into the front fence of an address in Archibald St at Mackay today."

The man is Caucasian, proportionate build, 165cm tall with blonde hair.

Police believe he is now driving a stolen white ute in the Mackay area.

Officers urge the public not to approach the man, but to contact police.



POLICE could not confirm whether the dramatic arrest of a man near the corner of Edward and Juliet Streets this afternoon was linked to the ongoing hunt for a wanted man across the region. 

Just before 2pm police used their vehicles to block access to Edward St from Juliet St and arrested a man understood to have been driving a blue Holden vehicle. 

A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed the man wanted for the theft of a new Ford GT Mustang and a string of other offences is still on the run.

LATEST: A MAN is still on the run after leading police on a wild goose chase from Proserpine to Sarina in a stolen Ford GT Mustang.

The car was allegedly stolen from a Proserpine car yard yesterday just before 5pm.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman this morning confirmed a Mackay woman was charged in relation to the theft and appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court today.

On Friday morning, police followed the woman's alleged accomplice through a number of Mackay suburbs, before he crashed the stolen vehicle through a fence of an Archibald Street property.

He then fled on foot.

The man was reportedly wanted by police prior to the theft on Thursday.

Acting Superintendent Ian Haughton said they believed the man was getting assistance from other associates in some way.

Acting Supt Haughton said the man could be considered dangerous.

"The person is committing lots of property offences," Act Supt Haughton said.

"They are obviously willing to take brand new vehicles.

"The portion we consider dangerous is the manner of driving.

"We see this as a risk to the public, that's why we are not engaging in pursuits.

"We will to attempt to make every effort to locate that person without placing the public at risk."

It is not known whether the man is armed, but police are taking every precaution.
Other agencies are assisting in the search. RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter confirmed they were assisting police.

Scenes of crime remain at the active crime scene on Archibald St.

Police are expected to brief the media again this afternoon.

UPDATE, 11.55AM: Police have established a crime scene and taped off a property in Archibald Street in Paget after the stolen Ford Mustang crashed through a fence.


UPDATE 11.40AM: THE RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter has joined the hunt for a man who has reportedly crashed a stolen Mustang. 

The man is reportedly on foot in the Paget area after crashing the stolen car on Archibald Street.

UPDATE 10AM: MACKAY police are continuing to track a new Ford GT Mustang stolen from a car dealership in Proserpine yesterday.

The vehicle was reportedly involved in a number of incidents overnight including a fuel drive-off at Farleigh and incidents where the vehicle was travelling on the wrong side of the road.

Mackay Police are investigating whether the vehicle was also involved in property crime overnight. 

The vehicle, which is reportedly being driven by a man who is the sole occupant, has been sighted driving at speed and erratically across the region, as far south as Sarina. 

Reports indicate the vehicle is now in the South Mackay area and is being tracked by multiple police crews.

Mackay Police are not attempting to intercept the vehicle.

UPDATE FRIDAY 8AM: A WOMAN has been charged overnight over the theft of a new 2017 Ford GT Mustang taken from a Prosperpine car dealership on Main Street yesterday afternoon. 

Whilst multiple cars were in the process of being moved by staff for "end of day" storing, the offender in this matter has gained possession of the car keys and used them to steal this car.

A Queensland Police spokesman said while the vehicle is yet to be located, a 31-year-old Mackay woman linked to the theft has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. 

She will appear in Mackay Magistrates Court this morning. 

Police are urging anyone who has information relating to the stolen cars current whereabouts to contact police via Policelink on 131 444. Do not approach or attempt to intercept the car yourself.

INITIAL: POLICE are responding to reports a brand new grey Ford GT Mustang has been stolen from a dealership north of the region this afternoon.

Initial reports indicate the $60,000 vehicle was stolen from the Ford dealership in Proserpine just before 5pm and is heading south on the Bruce Highway.

Police across the region have been alerted to keep an eye out for the vehicle, which is travelling through the Mackay region.

It is understood police are preparing to set up stingers on the highway to try and stop the vehicle.

The vehicle is not yet registered.

Anyone who sees the vehicle is urged to contact police.
