UPDATE: Police hunt for two men behind Bay armed robbery

UPDATE: POLICE are hunting for two men who robbed a Hervey Bay petrol station at gunpoint.

While wearing balaclavas to hide their faces, the offenders entered United Service Station in Eli Waters Tuesday night and threatened an employee.

A longarm rifle was pointed at the 35-year-old attendant's head, who complied with the thieves and gave them money.

A customer was in the store at the time of the hold-up, which happened about 9.30pm.

Hervey Bay Police Detective Senior Sergeant Mick Polit said it was believed the two offenders then took off into the nearby Augustus Estate.

Anyone who saw suspicious behaviour 9pm-10pm in the are on Tuesday night should come forward.

"One is described as wearing black clothing and the other was wearing white," Snr Sgt Polit said.

"Until they're caught, they're a risk of reoffending."

The incident was another blow for the business, which has been a target of similar crime in the past.

"It's open late at night, in a very vulnerable spot being out there on its own," Snr Sgt Polit said.

"There are a number of getaway routes from that area."

The shop employee and customer were not physically injured.

It is not known how much money was stolen.

If you have any information call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
