Brakes blamed for truck fire

A SEMI trailer being pulled by a Kenworth prime mover, caught fire yesterday afternoon along the Bruce Hwy just before the blockworks at Kybong.

The tyres were well alight when two Queensland Fire and Rescue Service crews arrived with thick, black smoke resulting in breathing apparatus being used.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

No-one was injured in the incident but the tri-axle trailer sustained extensive damage.

It is believed the fire was started by the a brake problem.

The fire spread slightly to a patch of grass near where the truck pulled up beside the highway but recent wet weather stopped the fire from spreading.

The truck was heading south carrying aluminium blocks when the fire started about 2pm.
