Girls seconds away from injury as car hits

UPDATE TUESDAY: Two sisters escaped possible serious injury by just a couple of seconds in a two-vehicle car crash in South Gladstone on Monday.

Melissa Vandrunick's two daughters were walking towards her Ford Territory when they saw another car allegedly run up the back of theirs.

"A couple of seconds later and the two girls would have been trying to get into the car when she hit me," Mrs Vandrunick said.

"I still had my seat belt on. Imagine if they just got in the car and didn't have theirs on."

A 10 year-old boy inside the other car, a Nissan, was taken to Gladstone Hospital with facial injuries.

Mrs Vandrunick said when she first saw the car behind her, it had been parked down the road with its hazard lights on.

"The next time I saw it in the revision mirror, it was coming towards me," she said.

"I thought 'how the hell did they get that much speed?' She had to have floored it.

"I was in neutral so I slammed my foot on the brake."

The crash occurred on the intersection of Roberts St and Stasia Lane just before 8.30am.

Mrs Vandrunick's car had a scratch on the rear bumper. The Nissan was written off.
