Boy charged with attempted rape at shopping complex

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with attempted rape and indecent assault after allegedly attacking a woman at a Sarina shopping centre on Saturday.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said just after 5pm, an 18-year-old woman was walking out of the toilets at the Woolworths centre on Broad St when the 14-year-old boy allegedly grabbed her and pushed her back into the toilets before sexually assaulting her.

"A female employee at a nearby businesses heard the woman screaming and ran into the toilets," the spokeswoman said.

"She saw a man's feet under the cubicle door and yelled at him to get out. He opened the cubicle door and fled."

Police and Queensland Ambulance were called to the scene at 5.15pm, the area was taped off and an investigation was launched.

After follow up enquiries today, police located and charged the 14-year-old Sarina boy with one count each of attempted rape and indecent assault.

Due to the boy's age, no details could be provided in relation to his court appearance.
