14yo boy on armed hold-up charge
A 14-YEAR-old has been accused of bailing up an adult store attendant with a meat cleaver in the Sunshine Coast's latest armed robbery.
The boy, who was arrested in front of shocked onlookers at Sunshine Plaza on Saturday afternoon, was alleged to have held up the shop the previous night.
It was the Coast's 24th armed robbery for the year.
Police claim the boy entered the Totally Adult Shop, on the corner of Maud St and Aerodrome Rd in Maroochydore, about 7.20pm Friday armed with the meat cleaver.
He allegedly threatened a female employee before fleeing with a sum of money.
He has been charged with one count each of armed robbery and obstructing police.
Witnesses to Saturday's arrest in the shopping centre said the juvenile, wearing a hooded jumper, was grabbed by an officer and thrown to the ground on the Plaza boardwalk.
Two other officers and a security guard became involved before the teenager was taken away.
He reportedly started crying as he was led away.
The youth will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justices Act 1992.
It was the second time in just over a week the Totally Adult store has been robbed but police say the 14-year-old is not being implicated in the other robbery at this stage.
On June 7, two men entered the store and threatened the shop attendant with a knife.
Both men were described as approximately 180cm tall with medium builds.
Both were wearing hooded jackets - one blue and one black - as well as black facial coverings.
In both cases, it was the same female shop assistant who was held up.
She was not physically harmed in either robberies and yesterday declined to talk about the latest incident.
