Bowls club robbed

NOT much happens in Pomona. That is why the locals love it.

Yesterday though, the tight-knit township's residents were left reeling after a knife-wielding bandit robbed the Pomona Bowls Club, escaping with a sum of cash.

About 9.15am a man entered the School Street business and threatened a male staff member with a knife, demanding money.

The assailant then fled the area with an undisclosed sum of cash, and was last seen walking along Station Street at Pomona.

He was described as being in his late 40s, of Caucasian appearance, about 165-170cm tall, with a solid build and full beard.

The man was wearing a distinctive dark Everlast brand jumper, blue jeans and blue and white runners.

He may have been wearing a dark shirt underneath his jumper.

Police sniffer dogs attended the scene but could find no trace of the offender.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

Senior Sergeant David Harbison, from Maroochydore's Crime Investigation Branch, said the oppurtunistic robbery was not linked to a string of other armed hold-ups across the Coast, in which syringes were used as weapons.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
