Shadow Treasurer to discuss free trade at China forum

SHADOW Treasurer Chris Bowen is travelling to China for the 2015 Boao Forum to engage with government representatives and the international business community.

The Boao Forum for Asia started in February 2001 with more than 26 Asian countries, and is now a significant international forum.

The forum will run from March 26 to March 29.

The Boao Forum is a place for Asia's regional government and business leaders to discuss economics, regional relations, and closer cooperation.

During the visit, the Mr Bowen will discuss the potential economic benefits of the proposed China Australia Free Trade Agreement, recognising the importance of our relationship with China.

China is Australia's largest trading partner, with goods exports to China totalling over $100 billion dollars in 2013-14, while goods imported totalled over $50 billion.

Tony Burke will be acting Shadow Treasurer during this time.
