Bowditch battles to make the cut

PERIGIAN Beach’s Steven Bowditch is off the pace after carding an opening round score of five-over 77 in the Texas Open.

The 27-year-old is in a tie for 122nd place and will be looking for a significant improvement in the second round as he strives to make the cut.

In his return to the US PGA Tour this year, Bowditch has impressed by making five of eight cuts.

Defending champion Adam Scott continued his great form to be one stroke off the lead.

Showing no signs of a Masters hangover, the Australian fired a four-under-par 68 to trail American pacesetters JJ Henry and Stewart Cink.

Kevin Na recorded the highest score on a par-four in US PGA Tour history, chopping his way to a 16.
