Bouganvillea caused rail chaos

THE cause of two major train network delays, which left thousands of peak-hour commuters stranded earlier this year, has been identified.

In February and March, 297 train services on the city network were disrupted and 124 train services were cancelled.

The cause of the February incident was traced to a wiring failure near Roma Street Station.

In March, three-metre high bouganvillea canes came into contact with overhead railway power lines near Milton Station, causing major delays.

The State Government is currently conducting a rail audit of the city network, including the Ipswich and Sunshine Coast lines.
