Bootcamp will be moved after two teens escape, wreak havoc

A BOOTCAMP in Kuranda near Cairns will be relocated after two young teenagers escaped from the rehabilitation centre.

The 13-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl have since been charged.

They allegedly threatened a carer with a knife, tried to steal a car and were found following an attempt to break into a home.

Tablelands Mayor Rosa Lee Long told 612 ABC Radio she understood these were the only two in the boot camp at the time.

Now Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie said the camp would be moved.

"I am keenly aware of the misgivings of the local community," he said.

"I share their concerns and I've made it clear that this cannot happen again."

Mr Bleijie said the operators of the facility would have seven business days to explain how the escape occurred.
