Book review: Outlaws Inc
BOOK: Outlaws Inc
AUTHOR: Matt Potter
PUBLISHER: Pan Macmillan
OUTLAWS Inc is interestingly subtitled "Flying with the World's Most Dangerous Smugglers".
It would seem that although the pilots and aircrew of this interesting time were indeed rogues and scoundrels the people they were dealing with were far more dangerous.
Author Matt Potter has examined the break-up of the Soviet Union and how servicemen in its armed forces were basically told to fend for themselves.
Military equipment of all shapes and forms walked out the doors of military establishments everywhere.
Included among them were the giant Il-76 cargo planes which largely carried legitimate cargo, but also had hidden compartments which provided the aircrew and their associates with a lucrative income.
This book is not for everyone, but is a readable account of different times and what people have to do to survive.
If you are a war buff and love aviation stories this is the book for you.
