BOOK: The Immortal Rules

AUTHOR: Julie Kagawa

PUBLISHER: Harlequin Teen

RRP: $19.99

THE Immortal Rules is most definitely my type of vampire book - there's bloodshed, tension, secrets and evil.

It is a dark story that features not only vampires but post-apocalyptic themes.

The Immortal Rules is set in a future would where vampires reign and humans are blood cattle.

Allison Sekemoto survives out in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred for the vampires. Until the night Allie herself is attacked - and given the ultimate choice. Die - or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: Go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

The Immortal Rules is gritty and scary and it works so well. And romance comes into play as well.

The initial build-up of the story was a bit slow but the ending left me wanting more.

For the start of a new series, it's fantastic and I recommend it to everyone who loves dark fantasy.
