Boge gives back to cancer patients

HELPING women with cancer feel beautiful is how Joan Boge gives back to her beloved Fraser Coast community.

Throughout the past eight years, the 73-year-old woman has dedicated her time co-ordinating Look Better, Feel Better workshops for female chemotherapy patients based in Maryborough and Hervey Bay.

Joan said the loss of hair, including eyebrows and eyelashes, from cancer treatment could often leave women feeling vulnerable.

Other side affects including dried skin and the nails and toenails.

But the Look Better, Feel Better program is helping to change all that.

Restoring self-confidence to seriously sick ladies can be as simple as helping them to secure a wig, tie on a bright scarf and apply the right type of make-up.

Helping them to delicately pencil on eyebrows for a "natural" look also doesn't go astray.

Joan's tireless dedication to the program was acknowledged on Sunday.

She was awarded as the Look Good, Feel Better Queensland regional volunteer of the year for 2015.
