Bob hangs up his broom

LAST week long-time volunteer Bob Simpson retired from the Mary Valley Heritage Railway.

He has been a volunteer cleaner at the Valley Rattler for 15 years and would often be seen on a Monday morning cleaning around the carriages and station precinct.

MVHR paid and volunteer staff attended a morning tea on Bob's last day, January 16, where he was presented with retirement gifts including an engraved beer mug.

At the ceremony MVHR President Tony Hallam thanked Bob for his dedication to the job over the 15 years he had with the Rattler.

Bob responded by reflecting upon the changes at the MVHR which had occurred since he started in 1997 and thanking past and present staff and volunteers.

His retirement highlighted the contribution that volunteers make to community organisations such as the Valley Rattler and threw into focus the vital relationship between paid staff and volunteers.

Everyone at the Valley Rattler wished Bob and his family all the best for the future.
