BMX club bursts into form

DESPITE its small size, the Gympie BMX Club continues to upstage bigger rivals from the Brisbane and Gold Coast regions after a blistering performance at the Oxley Cycles Southern Zone Championships.

The competition was held at the Ipswich BMX Club during the holidays and Gympie BMX publicity officer Daniel Kirkpatrick was elated.

“Our club came back with some exceptional results and had a great attendance for a small club,” he said.

Results were as follows:

Aedan Gottke – 5th 19-24 Years Men’s 20

Ryan Turner – 6th 15 Years Expert

Ethan Rodighiero – 6th 10 Years Expert. 5th 8-10 Years Cruiser.

Andrew Davis – 4th 13 Years Novice.

Emma Kirkpatrick – 5th 8 Years Girls.

Ricky Treeby – 6th 9 Years Boys Novice.

Cody Nyburg – 9th 12 Years Novice.

Taryn Rogidhiero – 4th 9 Years Girls.

Corey Waugh – 10th 14 Years Expert.

Numerous other Gympie riders participated and achieved personal best results, including Luke Nyburg, Renae Treeby, Scott Treeby, Leath Rodighiero, Anthony Nyburg and David Kirkpatrick.

Daniel praised the Gympie riders team for finishing as highly as they did.

“To finish in the top 10 at an event like this is just outstanding as every club from Gympie down to the border and out to Toowoomba was there,” he said.

In total, 500 competitors took part and among them was Gympie’s Ethan Rodighiero.

The One Mile State Primary School student finished 6th in the 15 Years Expert and 5th in the 8-10 Years Cruiser classes.

“I was really happy with how I went,” he said.

“Competition was tough but I like to be tested when I compete, especially because the state titles are coming up.”

Like many in the club, Ethan’s attention now falls on the Queensland Titles in September.
