BMW refreshes its line up of 1 and 2 Series models
BMW has revealed its updated 1 Series and 2 Series models ahead of their Australian launch late in the third quarter of this year.
As has been typical of BMW's styling agenda across most models recently, the updates are subtle and, for most, barely noticeable. If you like your special editions though, there is good news.
Starting with the five-door hatchback 1 Series, BMW is offering models called Edition Sport Line Shadow and Edition M Sport Shadow.
As you'd expect, these add sporty darkness to the styling, with black kidney grille frame, black inserts for the LED headlights and darkened rear lights.
Interior updates are more significant, with a completely reworked instrument panel and instrument cluster, the latest iDrive operating system for your navigation and entertainment, plus a touch pad so you can write navigation destinations in handwriting style.
As standard on all 1 Series you score a built-in SIM card and ConnectedDrive services, eliminating the need for the likes of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, although these can be had as cost options.
The BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertibles feature sharper front-end styling with a larger kidney grille and bi-LED headlights fitted as standard. Cabins also score the all-new design for the instrument panel, plus contrast stitching and new variants of cloth or leather seat upholstery.
Buyers have more alloy wheel designs to pick from, plus a great colour palette selection, including new Mediterranean and Seaside blues, plus Sunset orange.
As with the 1 Series, its two-door cousin scores a built-in SIM card and ConnectedDrive services. The engine line-up stays as-you-were for the new cars, meaning the entry level comes with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine.
This car is badged 118i and retails for $37,990 before on-roads.
The 2 Series hardtop starts with a $51,300 220i, while the 2 Series Convertible uses the same engine and starts at $58,300.
Prices of the new cars will be known closer to the late quarter three on-sale date.
