Blackhawks join PNG search

TWO ADF Blackhawk helicopters will join the search for two missing Australians and a New Zealander who were aboard a helicopter that disappeared over Mt Hagen in Papua New Guinea last week.

The decision was made following a formal request from PNG emergency services. The two Blackhawks have been stationed in Port Moresby to provide election support.

Missing are Captain Antony Annan, 49, of New Zealand, and Australians, pilot captain Russell Aitken, 42, and engineer Emmett Fynn, 36.

The Australian Army Blackhawks will search the area where the Hevilift Bell 206 Helicopter went missing on July 6. An aero-medical evacuation team, additional observers and a downed aircraft recovery team, will also assist.

A substantial search operation co-ordinated by PNG authorities and Hevilift, the aircraft's operator, has been under way since Saturday 7 July 12.
