Birthday bash for art society

QUEENSLAND Governor Penelope Wensley will officially open the Cooloola Arts Society's 40th Birthday Retrospective exhibition at 7.30 tonight.

She will also inspect the Gympie Regional Gallery for the first time.

Two remaining founding members, Cecile Steenbergen - a long-standing promoter of the arts in the Gympie community - and Violette Vegh-Jameson OAM, will cut the birthday cake after which Mayor Ron Dyne will launch the arts society's limited edition historical book.

The Cooloola Arts Society was instrumental in the establishment of the Gympie Regional Gallery.
