Birthday bash ends in cell time after party

LIONEL Malcolm must have dreamed of better ways to spend his birthday after waking up in a Gladstone police holding cell.

Malcolm was celebrating his 43rd birthday when neighbours called police after midnight on Sunday morning because of noise.

Yesterday he appeared in custody before Gladstone Magistrates Court to plead guilty to a public nuisance offence, and for failing to appear in a Biloela court in March on a prior public nuisance offence.

Prosecutor Snr Sgt Mark Gorton said police were called because Malcolm was drunk, swearing and noisily carrying on in his yard then became abusive toward officers.

Magistrate Penelope Hay fined him $600 for both public nuisance offences, and $500 for not appearing at court.
