Cosby returns to stage after sex scandal

BILL Cosby returned to the stage on Monday to perform a comedy set for the first time since dozens of women accused him of sex abuse in 2015.

The New York Post reports that the disgraced funnyman cracked jokes to an intimate crowd made up of old friends and supporters at LaRose Jazz Club in Philly.

The 80-year-old comedian didn't mention the sex abuse scandal, in which more than 60 women have come forward to claim he drugged and molested them over five decades, according to one audience member.

Instead, he played it safe with innocuous jokes about his family, Philly and going blind.

Audience members clapped, laughed and did not interrupt - or challenge - Cosby during the show. In between jokes, the scandal-scarred comedian also performed a musical set with the Tony Williams Jazz Quartet.

Cosby's last comedy tour ended with protests in May 2015 after dozens of women accused him of everything from rape to sexual battery.

Cosby is scheduled for an April 2 retrial on charges he sexually assaulted a woman at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004.

His first trial ended with a hung jury last year.

His performance on Monday honoured the jazz great Tony Williams, Cosby said in a Facebook post.
