Bigger success on the horizon for Jaguar XF

The new Jaguar XF will arrive in Australia next year.
The new Jaguar XF will arrive in Australia next year.

JAGUAR'S all-new XF sedan has been revealed, with Australian deliveries confirmed for the first quarter of 2016.

The first generation XF has proved a huge success story for Jaguar, and the XF Mk2 promises to move the game on further with a revised design, weight saving features, enhanced infotainment and increased-efficiency engines.

Jaguar says the new car's lightweight aluminium-intensive construction offers savings of up to 190kg over the outgoing model, and it claims to be 80kg lighter than its closest competitor, presumably BMW's 5 Series.

Most notable will be a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo diesel raising output to 221kW and bringing 700Nm of twist to the party.

The recognisable XF exterior style remains albeit with numerous styling cues seen on the recently revealed smaller Jaguar XE, while the XF Mk2 is actually 7mm shorter and 3mm lower than the car it replaces, but with a 51mm longer wheelbase.

Jaguar claims this will bring class-leading rear seat space.

Also announced is a 31.2cm TFT instrument cluster as pioneered by Jaguar Land Rover in the Jag XJ and Range Rover models.

The full technical and range specifications won't be known until April 1 at the New York Auto Show, while Australian pricing will be revealed closer to its 2016 launch.
