Big plans for Nelson Reserve

GYMPIE'S new transit facility will be located close to Mary St and will accommodate buses, coaches and taxis.

It is expected to include public amenities, cycle storage (with showers and lockers), public car parking, short stay RV parking and possibly some commercial uses such as ticket sales, car/bicycle hire and a cafe.

The facility will be linked directly into the Gympie Town Centre "by a shaded and comfortable pedestrian spine" with a "lush, cool and leafy character".

A "destination play facility" in Nelson Reserve will be planned and designed differently to the highly successful all-abilities play space at Lake Alford to avoid any double-up.

It will capitalise on the shade provided the existing mature canopy trees in Nelson Reserve and could incorporate more of a nature play experience.

Because Nelson Reserve is located directly adjacent to the Bruce Hwy a landscaped buffer will be built along the southern edge of the reserve to improve views from the highway and amenity within the parkland.
